Biography
Stanley is a psychoanalyst and psychoanalytic couple psychotherapist, a Full Member of BPA, IPA, BPF and the BSCPC.
He is Consultant Adult Psychotherapist (and past Clinical Director, 2005-2016) at the Portman Clinic (Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust, London), which offers psychotherapeutic treatment to patients disturbed by their criminality, violence or damaging sexual behaviours, and teaching and consultancy programme for colleagues in mental health, criminal justice and social care settings working with similar patients and clients.
He was a staff member at (the now) Tavistock Relationships between 1982 and 1997, serving as its Clinical Co-ordinator, Training Co-ordinator and, between 1987 and 1993, its Deputy Director.
He has a private clinical and organisational consultancy practice, has authored many book chapters and articles, and edited and co-edited five books, including Psychotherapy with Couples (Karnac, 1993), with James Fisher, Intrusiveness and Intimacy in the Couple (Karnac, 1995) and with David Morgan Lectures on Violence, Perversion and Delinquency (Karnac, 2007).
