Are you and your partner living with dementia?

Dementia can be difficult to understand and come to terms with, bringing challenges for couples at a time when your relationship with your partner is key.

The Living Together with Dementia service works with couples, providing support and help with the changes accompanying dementia.

What will it involve?

Working with one person from our specialist team who will think with you about your situation and help you to find new strategies and ways of adjusting together to the changes of dementia.

How can it help?

Couples living together with dementia are helped to:

  • manage the loss and trauma of diagnosis
  • find ways of adjusting to the changes accompanying dementia
  • enhance emotional contact and understanding of each other’s feelings
  • increase closeness and understanding
  • continue with everyday activities together that support wellbeing and interdependence and contain care needs
  • recover/retain the protective aspects of their relationship, strengthening its resilience and ability to survive and act as a protective resource for the couple.

What will it cost?

As a charity we provide relationship support whatever your financial circumstances. The cost of each session will be based on your income and your overall circumstances, with no minimum fee. The level of your fee will be discussed with you at your first appointment.

What people say about the programme:

“Normally, when I bring him tea in bed he doesn’t say very much – but in the last few days it is different, he’s been chatting away … it’s like having the old John back …”
