Thinking in new ways:
My TR Foundation Course experience

Birkbeck University of London Students Entering Doorway

Bronte Bannatyne recently completed our Couple and Individual Foundation Course. In this blog she shares her experience of the process.

From the get go, this was a course which was not only thoughtful in the way it was led but challenging and mentally stimulating. The teaching encouraged us to sit with complexity rather than rush to conclusions. It felt exploratory and open and the tutors encouraged us to think beyond the obvious and engage more deeply with what was happening beneath the surface and explore emotional undercurrents or patterns.

The papers complimented the group discussions and allowed us time to reflect on the material, question it and connect it to other dynamics at play.

Our tutors gave us solid foundations for understanding both psychodynamic and psychoanalytic psychotherapeutic approaches at a pace which was manageable. I found this blend of thinking fascinating and it stretched me intellectually.

Counselling training foundations for career change or couple work interest

The group itself was a mix; some were established professionals considering a change in direction whilst others were therapists exploring whether couple work might be right for them. This blend brought a range of perspectives and discussions were more layered than I had expected and assumptions thoughtfully questioned.

Alongside the learning, I met some genuinely lovely people and formed friendships and new connections. I would recommend this course to anyone curious about beginning work with couples and individuals, it was a highly valuable experience and I am so glad I took the leap!

A convenient way to study

Tavistock Relationships runs this Foundation Course three times a year with a variety of timings and days, to suit a range of people. My course ran through the autumn and was in-person on Monday evenings at Tavistock Relationships' New Street offices near Liverpool Street Station. This meant that I could easily go straight after my full-time job and I felt able to remain fully engaged without being overwhelmed.
