- Relationship Advice
By its very nature, adoption is a process that has its many ups and downs. With this in mind, Tavistock Relationships is offering a specialist service designed to support adoptive parents who would benefit from exploring the effects of adoption on their own couple relationship.
This service can help by:
- Offering a safe space to reflect on the impact of adoption on your couple relationship
- Enable better communication between you as parents
- Supporting you with difficulties you may be having with your adoptive child or children
- Improving the overall quality of your parental and couple relationship
We offer an initial consultation to adoptive couples and parents and, for those who may benefit, up to a further 20 weekly sessions of 50 minutes duration. Although face-to-face sessions are only available at our two central London premises, adoptive couples and parents living outside of London may access the service online using our confidential webcam facility.
We operate a sliding scale of costs for the service with a minimum fee of £70 for self-funding couples. If, however, if you feel that this service could be of help and you are unable to meet the costs yourself, then you are advised to contact your Local Authority (Post Adoption Support Team) to discuss your needs with them and to see whether they would meet the costs.
Past users of our service have said that they found it extremely helpful both in terms of their couple relationship and in regard to parenting. One parent said that the intervention had “enabled us to listen to each other and actually hear the other person’s point of view instead of always shouting. It got us to think together as a couple”.
