Our Certificate in Psychosexual Studies provides an essential foundation in thinking and talking about sexual issues, and takes place over two terms, consisting of eight full day Saturday workshops. This is a CPD course designed for counsellors, psychotherapists and other healthcare professionals, who want to develop their competence in working with sexual issues in their practice.

The course sets out to increase understanding, knowledge and confidence in working with the sexual relationship through a mix of lectures, films, role play and discussion groups.

Tavistock Relationships has twenty-five years’ experience in Psychosexual Training and alongside this Certificate course also runs a COSRT (College of Sexual and Relationship Therapists) accredited Postgraduate Diploma in Psychosexual Therapy. With over 70 years' research and clinical experience in working with couple relationships, our psychosexual courses offer a unique couple focus.

How the course is delivered

The course is delivered online, over Zoom, through a series of workshops and seminars. Topics include the couple relationship, psychosexual development, intimacy, desire and arousal, the causes of sexual dysfunction, the impact of infertility, plus working with sexual trauma, pornography and sexual compulsivity.

Participants will also receive three individual tutorials with an experienced psychosexual practitioner and be expected to write a 3,000 word essay.

Course leader

Our course leader, Albertina Fisher (Psychodynamic and Psychosexual Couples Therapist, COSRT), is a highly-experienced couple and individual psychodynamic and psychosexual therapist, trainer and supervisor. She leads Tavistock Relationships' Psychosexual Studies Certificate, and also teaches on the Psychosexual Diploma. Following a career in business, she retrained at Tavistock Relationships, completing their Diploma in Couple and Individual Psychodynamic Psychotherapy before training as a Psychosexual Therapist. She has a special interest in sexual desire in individuals and couples across the lifespan, among other sexual and relationship issues.
