Tavistock Relationships was set up 75 years ago to help families in crisis. It is a globally-recognised centre of excellence for couple and individual counselling and psychotherapy, and is the UK’s leading organisation delivering specialist clinical trainings with a relationship focus.

Here are five reasons you might prefer to train with us:

1 – Our pioneering approach

Tavistock Relationships has a long history of research, training and best practice, and is acknowledged as an innovator in the field of couple counselling and psychotherapy training. Our therapists have written dozens of influential books and published hundreds of papers all over the world. As a student, you will benefit from our experience, expertise and pioneering approach, which is woven into all our training. All our courses are delivered by highly-experienced Tavistock Relationships staff.

2 – Our reputation is your reputation

We are one of the few training organisations in the UK specialising in psychoanalytic understanding and treatment of couples. Our courses are highly-regarded, and we offer clinical trainings which are accredited by the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), the British Psychoanalytic Council (BPC) and the College of Sexual and Relationship Therapists (COSRT). Once qualified, our students have the opportunity to work for us as well as set up their own practice. Tavistock Relationships trained therapists are recognised around the world, and are in high demand.

3 – Clinical work and supervision are included

As a Tavistock Relationships student on one of our professional clinical courses, you won’t need to source your own clients to complete your clinical hours. Your clinical work can be undertaken in our clinic, supervised by highly trained Tavistock Relationships therapists.

4 – We train from Foundation Certificate to Clinical Qualification level

You could begin your journey as a therapist with us on a Foundation Certificate course and then continue on to our Clinical Qualification training. If you are already qualified, you might want to deepen your expertise with further training in both psychotherapy and psychosexual therapy. Advanced Standing routes are available for our psychoanalytic or psychodynamic clinical qualification courses. This means that suitably qualified and experienced therapists can complete them in a minimum of two years. We also offer a Diploma in Psychosexual Therapy for qualified therapists who want to develop professional expertise and accreditation in this area. In addition to our foundation and clinical programmes, we offer specialist continuing professional development (CPD) courses and seminars both online and in person.

5 – You’ll be part of the influential Tavistock Relationships community

Our students become part of our therapist community, with access to our programme of CPD courses and conferences. After graduation you will be able to stay up-to-date with recent developments in your field and develop your clinical practice by joining our lively alumni group. We also encourage our graduates to contribute to our thought-leadership and research.
