Find out about couple therapy training opportunities at our Open Evening

Published in Press Releases on August 8th 2022

Tavistock Relationships is holding a free online open evening on Monday 10 October 2022, 6pm-7pm, giving people the chance to find out about its Foundation Certificate in Couple Counselling and Psychotherapy. The evening will discuss how this is a valuable first step on a pathway to its clinical training programmes in Counselling, Psychotherapy and Psychosexual Therapy.

Established in 1948, Tavistock Relationships is a registered charity internationally renowned for delivering and developing advanced practice, training and research in therapeutic approaches to support couples.

Ranging from introductory and specialist programmes to full clinical trainings, Tavistock Relationships’ clinical courses are accredited by the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), the British Psychoanalytic Council (BPC) and the College of Sexual and Relationship Therapists (COSRT).

Julie Humphries, Senior Couple Psychoanalytic Psychotherapist and Director of Studies at Tavistock Relationships, explains:
“Tavistock Relationships has been working with couples and families for over 75 years and our training is highly respected.

“Couple therapy is a rich and rewarding career which offers flexible working. It often suits people looking for a change of career direction and a move from rigid office hours. You’ll get the chance to use your life experience to really make a difference to the lives of couples, individuals and their families and children.

“A successful couple therapist can make a good income, and each year our graduates go on to work both for us and in their own practices.
“That’s not to say it’s easy - commitment to training is required, and the rewarding route to qualification requires part-time study.

“Demand for qualified couple therapists is at an all-time high. Therapy in general has become more popular and accessible, thanks to campaigns like ‘Heads Together’. The benefits of couple therapy are more widely known about, partly through representations within mainstream media, for example BBC's ‘Couples Therapy’.

“Training takes up to four years, depending on qualifications on entry, and is part-time so it can be done alongside family and work commitments.

“At our online open evening, visitors will have the chance to speak to course trainers as well as current students, to hear about the study requirements, what it’s like to be a student at Tavistock Relationships, and the career opportunities that are available. We will be focusing on our ‘Foundation Certificate in Couple Counselling and Psychotherapy’, often the gateway to further study with us and a rewarding career in couple therapy.”
