Andrew Balfour
Chief Executive at Tavistock Relationships

In additional to responding to media enquiries about the place of couple therapy as a psychological intervention, Andrew is available to speak about issues relating to older couples and ageing. He is trained as a clinical psychologist, and adult psychotherapist and a couple psychotherapist. He has longstanding experience of working with couples of all ages and a particular interest in issues of later life and in developing ways of helping older couples where one partner has a dementia. He is the author of a number of papers, most recently an outcome study of couple psychotherapy and he is also one of the editors of the Karnac publication: How Couple Relationships Shape our World: Clinical Practice, Research and Policy Perspectives.

Damian McCann
Couple Psychoanalytic Psychotherapist, Head of Learning & Development & Clinical Lecturer with Tavistock Relationships and Consultant Family & Systemic Psychotherapist in the NHS

Damian is an Advanced Clinical Associate with Pink Therapy Services, where he delivers training for practitioners wishing to develop their skills in working with gender and sexual diversities. His doctoral research was concerned with understanding the meaning of violence and abuse within the couple relationships of gay men. He has extensive experience in working with same-sex couples and has also published on this topic as well as lesbian and gay parenthood and supervision. He has also presented on these areas of practice at national and international conferences

Marian O'Connor
Head of Professional Development and Training (CPD and conferences)

Marian has 25 years’ experience working with couples and individuals with a wide variety of relationship and sexual concerns. She has lectured in UK and abroad on psychosexual issues, spoken on BBC radio shows and has contributed articles to publications, including a chapter for the recent, European-wide Syllabus of Clinical Sexology published by the European Society of Sexual Medicine.

Marian is available to respond to media enquiries on couple relationships generally, and particularly on sexuality and psychosexual therapy. She has experience and knowledge of a wide variety of sexual issues, including lack of interest of in sex in long term relationships, affairs, infertility, non-monogamous relationships, sex after illness or post-menopause, and sexual dysfunctions in young men and women.
