Train to be a therapist
Welcome to our clinical trainings
Tavistock Relationships offers a range of clinical trainings with a psychodynamic perspective on relationships.
A leader in the field for 75 years, we have developed a unique approach to working with couples and individuals, a range of innovative clinical services, as well as influential research and publications.
As valued members of a high-quality psychodynamic therapy and training organisation, our trainees receive comprehensive support on their journey towards professional and academic qualification.
Our clinical programmes include seminars on psychoanalytic and couple theory, as well as clinical skills and technique.
Pathways to Becoming a Therapist
Depending on where you are in your journey there are different pathways to training as a couple therapist.
Below you will find information on our introductory and foundation courses, as well as our psychodynamic and psychoanalytic psychotherapy clinical qualification trainings.
Foundation and Introductory Programmes
The Foundation Certificate in Couple Counselling and Psychotherapy is a non-clinical training that offers an initial framework for exploring the theory and practice of couple counselling and psychotherapy. It is a standalone course and it can also be a first step towards further professional training.
Couple and Individual Psychodynamic Psychotherapy MA/PG Dip
A unique training that qualifies practitioners to work with both couples and individuals using a psychodynamic framework. This course is accredited by the BACP and offers an academic award (PG Dip or MA) via our partnership with Birkbeck College, University of London.

Advanced standing pathways are available for clinicians with an existing clinical qualification.
Advanced Standing Qualification in Couple Psychodynamic Psychotherapy
