What is personal data?

‘Personal data or information’ means data or information about you and from which you could be identified.

In this notice, ‘we’ and ‘us’ mean Tavistock Relationships and ‘you’ means candidates applying for posts at Tavistock Relationships.

We use your personal data to process your employment application and more specifically to:

  • Assess your skills, qualifications and suitability for the role;
  • Communicate with you about the recruitment process;
  • Keep records related to our recruitment processes;
  • Carry out reference checks;

  • Consider whether we should make appropriate reasonable adjustments during the recruitment process, e.g. during the interview/test;

Who do we share this data with?

We will never sell or rent your information to third parties for marketing purposes.

We will only disclose information about you to third parties if we are legally obliged to do so.

As part of our recruitment processes, we will contact referees once a verbal offer is made. For some of our clinical vacancies, due to the nature of these posts, referees may be contacted prior to the interview. In both cases, separate consent is sought.

How long do we keep your personal information?

The personal data of unsuccessful candidates, including those ones who have not been shortlisted, is kept for one year after the end of the relevant recruitment process. Thereafter, these are deleted and destroyed in a confidential manner. The data of successful candidates will be held according to the HR Privacy Policy, a copy of which will be made available upon the offer of employment.

In order to ensure we keep your personal information as secure as possible, Tavistock Relationships has robust technical and organisational procedures. These include ensuring your data is only accessed by authorised members of staff who have a legitimate need to access your personal information.

When you use our website

Like many other websites, our website uses cookies. 'Cookies' are small pieces of information sent by an organisation to your computer and stored on your hard drive to allow that website to recognise you when you visit. Website enquiries

If you use our website enquiry service to contact us regarding our BRSF service, we will ask you to provide us with your name, a method of contacting you and information about your enquiry into our clinical services.  We will only use this information to respond to your enquiry and to set up an appointment to talk to you about joining one of our parenting/relationship programmes,..

If you decide not to proceed with registering for our services we will keep your enquiry details for 2 months after the end of your enquiry.  After this time your details will be deleted.

If you decide to register for our BRSF programme, you will be asked to provide further details regarding your relationship with your co- parent and our practitioner will discuss with you how that information will be used to provide you with the service. 

Confidentiality

Tavistock Relationships is delivering the Building Relationships for Stronger Families in conjunction with the funders – The Department of Work and Pensions, along with delivery partners, Asian Family Counselling, Family Lives and Elfrida Rathbone. Your information will only be shared with any of these agencies if you decide to register for the programme and not at the point of enquiry.

We adhere to a professional code of ethical standards which includes the principle of confidentiality. This means that we would not disclose information about you to a third party without your agreement, except in situations where there was significant concern about harm to you or someone else and this would normally be discussed with you beforehand.

If you come as a couple we would normally expect that information can be shared between you. If you have any questions about confidentiality you can discuss them with your practitioner

We ensure that access to your personal data is restricted to members of staff who require access as part of delivering our therapeutic service.

Child with alcohol dependent parent

Behavioural Couples Therapy for Alcohol Dependence is a behaviourally-based couple therapy designed to treat alcohol dependence in couples where there is also relationship distress.

The therapy works to:

    • reducing damaging interactions between couples,
    • building emotional openness and closeness,
    • improving communication and behaviour,
    • changing unhelpful cognitions and perceptions, 
    • targeting behaviour/maintaining factors in alcohol dependence,
    • establishing and maintaining behavioural change and relapse prevention.

Does it work?

A meta-analytic review of studies of Behavioural Couples Therapy (Fals-Stewart, 2004) concluded that ‘this intervention produces significant reductions in substance abuse, improves relationship satisfaction, and also has very important secondary effects, including reductions in partner violence and improvements in children’s psychosocial adjustment’. 

A later study concluded that couples therapy is a good option relative to other therapies, and one whose benefits are more likely to extend to the whole family (Powers, 2008).

This approach is recommended by NICE guidance for harmful drinkers and people with mild alcohol dependence who have a regular partner who is willing to participate in treatment.

Risk assessment around domestic violence is a central element of this approach, in order to ensure that it is safe to work the couple.

Training and delivery

Tavistock Relationships has a team of practitioners trained in delivering Behavioural Couples Therapy for Alcohol Dependence.

We offer a 5-day training in this intervention (for mental health and social care practitioners without who have not yet undertaken any couple training) and a top-up training for practitioners (such as IAPT practitioners or Relate counsellors) who have either undertaken the 5-day training in Couple Therapy for Depression/Behavioural Couples Therapy or who are experienced in working with couples.

3. How we collect and use your personal data

Identity Information

When you use the App, we collect: your name - which you can elect to provide as an alias, and an email address.

Activity Information

When you use the App, we collect your responses to the exercise questions so that we may share these answers and your progress with you, and your partner where you have chosen to share your answers.

We never read or see any of the answers you provide to questions or partner notes that you input into any text fields, these are only ever seen by you or your partner where you chosen to share your responses.

Demographic Information

We do not collect any demographic information.

Activity Information

Only after we have anonymised your activity information (so it can never be used to identify you or anyone else), we may use it to analyse how our users are engaging with the App.

When you use the Services, we may collect: information about the time you spend and the pages you visit within the App in order to better understand user needs and preferences and to enable us to improve the user experience and your email address so that we may communicate with you about things you have agreed to when creating your account.

Support Information

When you use the Services, we collect: your email address when you contact us for support so that we are able to respond to you; we may also ask for your device information so that we can understand and fix technical issues that may occur with our platforms, and other personal data you provide about yourself anytime you contact us for support or general queries.

Registration Information

When you register for an account on the App, we collect information associated with setting up your account which includes a user name, email address and password. We use your registration information to set up your account.

Marketing & Communication Information

When you use the Services, we collect your email address so that we can deliver (where we have your consent) information, offers and promotions that may be of interest to you.

Technology Information

We may obtain information about your general internet usage by using a cookie file which is stored on your browser or the hard drive of your computer. 5. Information sharing you control

When your data is shared with your partner

We do not share your personal data with your partner but provide you with the ability to initiate this sharing. When you choose to share your exercise responses with your partner on the App, you are able to choose to stop sharing this information at any time.

We never disclose your personal data to advertisers or other third parties for any compensation. However, we share the personal data we collect about you in order to provide our services in the ways described below.

Service Providers

We work with Service Providers that carry out certain functions on our behalf. These include, for example, companies that help us with network and technology services, payment processing, appointment booking platforms, storing data, analysing data, managing mailing campaigns, running our support desk, and managing subscriptions. We only share personal data that enable our Service Providers to provide their services.

Tavistock Relationships has physical, electronic, and procedural safeguards that comply with regulations to protect personal information about you. We also ensure that all of our Service Providers have in place industry recognised safeguards. However, data transmissions over the internet cannot be guaranteed to be 100% secure. Consequently, we cannot ensure or warrant the security of information you over the internet to us.

The personal data we collect may be stored and processed on computers situated outside the United Kingdom or the European Economic Area ("EEA"). If such a transfer or storage outside of the UK or EEA

Your personal data won’t be kept longer than necessary, giving due regard to: initial purpose of collection; age of data; any legal/regulatory reason for us to keep it; and whether needed to protect you or us. Subject Access Rights -- You have a right to see the personal data we hold about you and the circumstances of our processing activities.

Right to have inaccurate information corrected -- if you believe we hold inaccurate or missing information, please let us know and we will correct it.

Right to object to our use of your personal data -- We will consider your objection to our use of your personal data. If on balance, your rights outweigh our interests in using your personal data, then we will at your request either restrict our use of it or delete it.

Right to object to direct marketing – where we engage in direct marketing activities (after getting your consent), if you make such an objection or ask us to stop, we will stop using your personal data for direct marketing purposes.

Right to restrict our use of your personal data -- you can restrict our use of your personal data, if you have successfully made a general objection, you are challenging the accuracy of the personal data we hold, or we have used your personal data unlawfully -- but you do not want us to delete it.

Right to have your personal data deleted -- you can have us delete your personal data when: we no longer need to keep your personal data; you have successfully made a general objection; you have withdrawn your consent to us using your personal data (where we have relied on consent as the lawful basis for doing so); or we have unlawfully processed your personal data

11. Children’s data

Tavistock Relationshipos does not knowingly collect Personal Data from children. Should we become aware that we are processing the personal data of any children, we will delete such personal data as soon as possible.

12. International Privacy Laws

This Policy complements and does not replace national data protection laws. Any applicable national data protection law will supersede this Policy where such law imposes stronger requirements and this policy shall apply where there are no national data protection laws.
