Tavistock Relationships (TR) has been awarded a grant from the Department of Health and Social Care to establish a National Centre for Supervision of Parent-Infant Relationships (NCSPIR)

This forms part of the Government’s Family Hubs and Start for Life programme. The funding will enable practitioners in 75 local authorities to access clinical supervisors with expertise in parent-infant relationships where there is no capacity at local level.

This project, which runs until end of March 2025, is designed to improve the support offered to parents and their infants to establish and build close and nurturing relationships. The new centre will listen to local authorities across the country and design a service to meet their needs.

Andrew Balfour, CEO Of Tavistock Relationships, believes this initiative is a positive step for parents and their children:

“Through the Family Hubs and Start for Life Programme, investment in Parent-infant relationship work is already supporting parents and their infants to form strong and loving relationships. The new National Centre will support practitioners working therapeutically with families, ensuring they have access to clinical supervisors with expertise in parent-infant relationships. The aim is to improve outcomes for parents and children and resilience in practitioners. We are really looking forward to working together with LAs and other professionals in the field to create the National Centre.”

Before the Centre launches in the Spring of 2024, TR will be engaging with programme’s local authorities to better understand how we can help. We would love to hear from as many people as possible, so please contact our Head of Service Claire Hopkins to take part in developing this exciting new Centre This email address is being protected from spambots.
