New Online Psychotherapy Service Launched

Published in Press Releases on December 8th 2016

Tavistock Relationships, a world-leading centre of excellence in providing couple therapy and individual counselling, is entering new ground by offering therapy and counselling for couples and individuals online via webcam.

Tavistock Relationships Launches New Online Psychotherapy Service - Couples Can Now Access Specialist Help via Webcam.

Tavistock Relationships combines cutting-edge research in supporting couples and individuals with a rich tradition of clinical practice accumulated over 70 years. Having developed a number of innovative psychotherapeutic approaches to help relationships, including sexual problems, parenting issues, separation and divorce, as well as other specialised therapeutic programmes, the organisation has a reputation not only for clinical excellence but also for training therapists and providing a range of stimulating professional development programmes and events.

Delivering over 17,000 sessions of counselling and psychotherapy a year from its two London Centres, and with demand growing year on year, it was deemed important to make the charity’s unique therapies available to those who live outside London, or who are unable to access our services for other reasons. With this in mind the organisation decided to launch an online service.

Although online therapy has started to become more widely available in the private sector, it is still a relatively new offering for clients from reputable established organisations such as Tavistock Relationships. The ‘talking therapies’ sector has long since debated the value of online provision, but recent evidence from both sides of the Atlantic demonstrates the positive benefits of this provision.

Reliability and security are two of the most critical factors with any public digital service. Tavistock Relationships has formed a tech partnership with specialist provider of online platforms, Zoom.

Whereas some providers of webcam support have opted for more popular platforms, which are not encrypted end to end and have concerns about their stability, Zoom has maximum uptime, secures session content by encrypting the web communications, has best of class security. Crucially, no information is recorded or retained.

Speaking of the new launch, Director of Clinical Services, Limor Abramov said:

“We are excited to make our clinical services available for couples and individuals who live outside London or are unable to access face-to-face help from our London centres for other reasons. The sessions are delivered by highly qualified, experienced counsellors and psychotherapists. We are very pleased to report that after piloting the service we have received excellent results both in terms of satisfaction with the help received and in terms of the smooth running of our user-friendly software.”
