Parenting and relationships experts, Tavistock Relationships is now providing teacher training in Relationships and Sex Education (RSE). We are highlighting this ahead of RSE Day which takes place on June 24, 2021. RSE Day aims to encourage parents, teachers, carers and educators to talk openly about relationships and sex education with their children.

New government policy had required schools to start to begin offering relationship learning from September 2020, but given the pressures of Covid-19, the Department for Education set the full implementation date as ‘no later than the start of the summer term 2021’.

Andrew Balfour, CEO of Tavistock Relationships says:

“The pandemic lockdown, and it’s social and financial consequences, has put great pressure on families, parents and children. During the same period, shifting views around women’s safety, gender fluidity and cultural differences has made discussions around relationships and sex more complex. Teachers need to feel supported and trained so that they can make the most of RSE.

“Our training helps teachers both recognise and work with pupils adversely affected by the impact of parental conflict and also to explore the opportunities and happiness that relationships can bring.”

Tavistock Relationships workshops supports teachers to enable young people to think about a range of relationships issues including:

  • Why people choose particular partners
  • What relationships give us
  • How one person’s behaviour can affect their girlfriend or boyfriend
  • Different types of sexuality
  • The life-changing impact of parenting
