Dr Christopher Clulow

Biography

Christopher Clulow is a Consultant Couple Psychoanalytic Psychotherapist registered with the British Psychoanalytic Council. He is a Senior Fellow of the Tavistock Institute of Medical Psychology, a Fellow of the Centre for Social Policy, Dartington, and an Honorary Member of the International Attachment Network. He worked as a probation officer before joining Tavistock Relationships in 1974 (then known as the Institute of Marital Studies) where he served as Director from 1987 to 2006. He chaired the International Commission on Marriage and Interpersonal Relationships of the United Nations registered International Union of Family Organisations from 1986 – 1994. He has published extensively on partnerships, parenthood and couple psychotherapy, and was awarded an academic doctorate on the basis of this work. The most recent of his twelve books are Engaging Couples. New Directions in Therapeutic Work with Families (published by Routledge and co-edited with Andrew Balfour and Kate Thompson in 2019), Couple Therapy for Depressions. A Clinicians Guide to Integrative Practice (published by Oxford University Press and co-authored with David Hewison and Harriet Drake) and Sex, Attachment and Couple Psychotherapy: Psychoanalytic Perspectives (published by Karnac Books and edited in 2009). Until 2023 he was Editor in Chief of Couple and Family Psychoanalysis and an Editor of the International Review of Couple and Family Psychoanalysis. He remains a Series Editor for the Routledge Library of Couple and Family Psychoanalysis.
